• The knowledge is lost almost immediately. Maybe you passed your test. Congratulations, but you’ve failed your test.
  • Every opportunity to improve your skills as a project manager was stifled. Continuous improvement is not possible through memorization, but better understanding and knowledge.
  • Boot Camps are bad. This is why I discourage people who attend PMP ‘boot camp’. These short-term cram sessions are not meant to be focused on deep understanding. Many PMI chapters offer study groups that meet weekly or more often if you want to study with other people. These groups are fantastic and allow you to really understand the concepts and the body of knowledge. It is important to continue to study outside of class, as you won’t have enough time to fully grasp the concepts. It is a good rule to spend a few hours outside of class for every hour of class. The same applies if you buy the online PMP study program I purchased when I was studying for my PMP. It will take you months to fully understand the material. Give yourself enough time to do so. You must be curious. If you don’t understand a concept, you can go online to do your own research. This curiosity and independent search for knowledge will be what drives your professional and personal growth. Do not do less than you can and don’t seek an easy way out. Seek mastery.
